Lawrence, Kansas is home to a variety of golf courses and is a great destination for tee times and golfing. The city has several public courses, including Alvamar Golf Club, Lawrence Country Club, Eagle Bend Golf Course, and Lawrence Park Golf Course. Alvamar Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., is a popular choice among locals and visitors alike. Another Lawrence native, Ben Kern, was a professional golfer who won the Kansas Open Championship in 1958 and 1961. When it comes to famous moments in golf in Lawrence, the most notable was the 1957 U.S. Women’s Open, which was held at the Lawrence Country Club and won by Mickey Wright. The tournament was the first major championship for women in the United States and the first U.S. Women’s Open ever held in the Midwest.
