About Forest Park Golf Course

Golfers at Forest Park are in for a treat with access to one of the top public courses in the United States. Originally built in 1913 on the site of the 1904 World's Fair, the Norman K. Probstein Community Golf Course and Youth Learning Center is now a modern facility. Recently, the course was reconfigured by Stan Gentry, chief architect for Hale Irwin Golf Services Inc., into three nine-hole courses named after trees commonly found in St. Louis: Hawthorne, Dogwood, and Redbud. These courses can be played separately or combined to form an 18-hole course to offer more flexibility to golfers. All three courses have well-manicured zoysia fairways and are par 35.

What Needs Improvement at Forest Park Golf Course

Golfers tell us that the pace of play at this golf course needs improvement. Multiple groups have reported waiting and rounds taking over five hours to complete. The greens are also mentioned as being bumpy and difficult to putt on due to aeration. Bunkers frequently go unraked, and there is a general need for more maintenance, especially considering the high number of players. Some golfers have expressed frustration with the high price of the course compared to others in the area. The native grass in front of certain holes is also too high, making it difficult to find the ball and taking away from the overall beauty of the course.
